about

Magnus "SoulEye" Pålsson is a game composer living in Sweden, whose love for the medium originated when he first got his hands on a Nintendo Game & Watch handheld. The fascination continued with the C-64, Amiga 500, Amiga 1200, and PC. Most of the artist's tunes are reflections of the the lo-fi sound quality and catchy melodies of these retro game platforms.

SoulEye’s game soundtrack contributions include music for Garden Gnome Carnage by Daniel Remar, Space Phallus by Charlie's games, #ModArchive Story 2 by Nicklas "Nifflas" Nygren, as well as Extreme Road Trip by Roofdog Games. He is perhaps best known for his score to the platforming puzzler VVVVVV, designed by by Terry Cavanagh.

In early 2010, the artist debuted his original soundtrack album for VVVVVV. Entitled PPPPPP, the album is currently available on compact disc and digital download, while samples can be heard on Bandcamp and SoundCloud. The following year, the arrange album PPPPPPowerup! debuted, featuring arrangements by Mattias Häggström Gerdt and other artists.

For Songs we heard in ilomilo, SoulEye plays off the old-timey gramophone quality of track “grandpa's favorite record” with a chiptune arrangement entitled “Grandpa’s Favorite Song.”
